More About Me

I  started my career in social services 15 years ago when I began working in a shelter for adult and children survivors of domestic violence and answering phones for the 24 hour crisis line. It was during this period that I discovered my capacity to create safe and trusting relationships even in moments of crisis. I possess a warm and encouraging personality, directness, and the ability to reflect and pause, qualities that have been essential in my counseling work. These skills empower clients to open up without fear of being judged and provide opportunities for them to be challenged as they work towards achieving their treatment goals.

My area of expertise lies in trauma work, specifically aiding individuals recovering from complex trauma (PTSD or C-PTSD) and dissociative disorders. I believe that healing is a complex and individualized process, which is why I offer a dynamic approach tailored to each client's strengths and goals. I am well-versed in various therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, SFBT, DBT, Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness-based skills. I have fulfilled the mandatory 3-year supplementary training to obtain an EMDR therapy certification from EMDRIA, in addition to achieving consultant status that permits me to oversee other clinicians in their EMDR practice. Additionally, I have received specialized training in EMDR regarding dissociation, religious/institutionalized trauma, Expressive Arts and nature integration.

As a white, cis woman, I am aware of my privilege and biases and constantly strive to examine and improve them. I am affirming of queer, trans, and non-binary individuals and have experience in advocacy and letter writing to support clients pursuing medical care for gender transition. I am sex-work positive, kink and open relationship/non-monogamy allied. My practice is a safe and welcoming space for individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, spirituality, relationship style, or abilities.

I am passionate about listening and holding space for individuals during difficult times while offering evidence-based research and experience to aid in their growth and healing. Witnessing clients' progress towards their goals brings me immense joy and I  am grateful for the connections I have made through my work. I look forward to meeting new clients and am excited to share this experience with you!

I have made progress in my own growth and healing offering me the space to find meaning in my life and creating peace. Away from work, I love spending time with my partner, friends, and family. Being a creative individual, I engage in various activities such as drawing, singing, writing stories, and revamping old furniture, among others, that allow me to explore my artistic side. Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and I would be delighted to keep you informed about my dog, Gemma Bardeaux's life (follow Willstone Counseling on Social Media).
